The doorways at Aztec Ruins stood like sentinels, worn by centuries of wind and sun. They were narrow, low, made of stacked stone, built by hands that had long since turned to dust. There was something about them—the way they framed the empty spaces beyond, leading from one room to the next, pulling you through the ruins. Each doorway was a passage, a threshold between the past and whatever came after. You had to stoop to pass through them, as if the builders had known that no one should enter this place standing too tall, too proud.
